3 Things No One Tells You When You Start Dropshipping

I started with a dream… to build my own online business that I could run from anywhere and would enable me to leave my 9-5 job.

I rushed into making my dream a reality, closely resembling (and feeling like) a headless chicken.

I would spend hours surfing Youtube looking for ways to make money online. Eventually, I stumbled upon dropshipping from China with AliExpress while running Facebook ads.

In hindsight, it’s clear to see how naive I was.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was not matched by my knowledge of the ecommerce world. After spending far too much on loss-making Facebook ad campaigns, I quickly realised that this business model was not going to see me realise my dreams.

Nevertheless, these were crucial lessons for me to learn. These early mistakes forced me to follow a proven path to success which I now enjoy. I don’t want my lessons to be in vain. I want you to learn from them as well.

If only someone told me these 3 top tips when I was just starting out with my online business:

1. Avoid Poor Quality Overseas Suppliers.

The value of your dropshipping business will be heavily affected by the quality of your suppliers.

Poor Suppliers ⮕ Poor Products ⮕ Unhappy Customers ⮕ Unhappy You

If you are not supported by your suppliers, ultimately this will effect your customer’s perception of your business. I learnt that this leads to headaches and stress.

If you decide to partner with suppliers who are overseas and sell cheap widgets with long delivery times, you are setting yourself up for failure over the long term.

2. Don’t Start Paid Ads Without Training.

Ads can get expensive fast.

If you don’t have experience running paid ads, you need to be taught how to set up your campaigns unless you want to repeat my mistakes.

I started off blindly following a few recommendations from different sources.

This showed me that it was possible to make sales online, however when I calculated my sales figures minus my ad costs, I was losing money every day.

Learning from these mistakes, I followed a step-by-step program with mentoring which taught me how to run a highly-profitable ad campaign.

3. Free Courses End Up Costing You More.

I started my online business journey following free advice from Youtube.

Now, there is a lot of valuable information out there on Youtube. However… there is no real support from the content creator to help you to achieve your goals.

It is easy to find distractions and what happens if you don’t understand something that was advised? Where can you go to find clarity?

Ultimately, I followed this free information that had no structure to help me set up my business correctly and I ended up spraying money up the wall running Facebook ads.

I realised that I would have saved a lot of money by making an initial investment into a training program..
